We are part of The National Society of Allotment and Leisure Gardeners, and have a 10-year lease on a 4.5 acre site at the end of Jacques Road (off Higham Road). There are currently over 70 gardeners tending plots of various sizes – and there is a waiting list of 10 persons. A committee oversees the running of the site, and our AGM is held on the last Thursday in March.
During the year the society mounts two twelve-week exhibitions with Burton Latimer themes at the Heritage Room Museum. We have summer and autumn afternoon events and hold our AGM on the third Thursday in March.
Burton Latimer Ukulele & Drum Group was dreamed up in 2016 and was born in 2017. We are a social group who enjoy playing and singing music mostly from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s.
Meetings are held on Tuesdays from 7.30pm to 9.30pm at the Dukes Arms, High Street.
Burton Latimer Twinning Association was formed in 1985. Formal twinning links with the German village of Altendiez were completed in 1987, and with the Italian town of Castelnuovo Magra in 2002. The Association organises trips to the two twin towns from time to time, and arranges hospitality for our German and Italian friends who visit Burton Latimer.
Burton Rock ‘n’ Roll Club meets at Burton Latimer Community Centre – which has a big dance floor and seats about 130 people. We open the doors at 7pm and the bar closes at 12. Band nights are every last Saturday of the month. The atmosphere is very friendly and we try our hardest to welcome you all to our club.
Meetings are held at 7.30pm in the Harold Mason Centre on the last Thursday of each month (except August and December). Membership is open to all – not just those associated with the armed forces. We support ex-service personnel and their dependants in Burton Latimer, and our volunteers run the local house-to-house collection as part of the annual poppy appeal.
Meetings are held from 2.00pm-4.00pm at the Harold Mason Centre on the first Monday of the month (except January). Our annual calendar of meetings and social functions raises funds for the Royal British Legion. Membership is open to all.
The Friends of Burton Latimer Library aim to raise the profile and encourage wider use of the town’s library. The group organises a range of activities – such as book sales, children’s events, coffee mornings and author events.
We are a charitable organisation set up to enable all people in Burton Latimer (both churchgoers and non-churchgoers) to help preserve the heritage of our parish church, for the benefit of the whole community. Our role is to help provide funds to repair and enhance the fabric of the church. Members receive invitations to various functions organised through the year.
