LET'S SAVE OUR LIBRARY
Burton Latimer Library is under threat - and risks being closed, if one of three options being considered by Northamptonshire County Council to save money goes ahead.

NCC's review of library services across the county outlines three options, and is asking for local resident's views:

  • Under options 1 & 2, Burton Latimer library would remain open
  • Under option 3, Burton Latimer library would close

If you intend to take part in this consultation, please make sure your comments or completed survey forms reach NCC by 5pm on Saturday, 13th January 2018.

Burton Latimer Heritage Society Museum - call for exhibits
BLHS's next exhibition (to be called 'Collections') aims to feature a range of personal collections by Burton latimer people. The Heritage Society hopes people will allow their collections - which need not necessarily be specific to Burton Latimer - to be shown to a wider audience. If you have a collection you would like to share, please get in touch. The Museum has window grills, is burglar alarmed and the display cases are locked - so your treasures will be safe!

The museum will be open from 10am until noon on Saturday, 3rd February 2018 to receive exhibits for the exhibition. The exhibition itself will run from Saturday, 3rd March to Saturday 23rd June, and the Museum will be open from 10am to 1pm every Thursday and Saturday during that period. As usual, entrance is free.

Burton Latimer Pocket Park
Pocket Park - volunteers needed
Burton Latimer's Pocket Park is a great place to walk, have a picnic - or just sit and relax - while enjoying the flora and fauna that thrive in the peaceful surroundings. It is also the venue for our town's annual Duck Race and Fete.

But it takes time and effort to keep the area looking good - which is why the Pocket Park team is asking for additional volunteers to help with events, and carry out vital maintenance work.

There's always plenty to do, and the work sometimes involves operating equipment - such as strimmers and grass cutting machinery - for which volunteers receive full training. All equipment and insurance is provided - so you just need to supply your own energy, enthusiasm and as much time as you can! For further information, phone Fergus on 07767 398386 or Maureen on 01536 725524.

Town Twinning Association - a call for new members
Since its formation in 1985, Burton Latimer Twinning Association has created formal links with the German village of Altendiez and the Italian town of Castelnuovo Magra. Exchange visits with the two twin towns have been organised from time to time - with the most recent being a highly successful trip to Castelnuovo Magra in 2015.

The Association has early plans to host a visiting contingent from Altendiez in 2017, and possibly from Castelnuovo Magra too. New members are always welcome - and if you are interested in joining the Association or wish to find out more, please contact Steve Thomas (Twinning Association Chair - tel: 01536 724309); Chris Thomas (Secretary - tel: 01536 724309); or Carolyn Tristram (Treasurer - email: carolyntristram@hotmail.com).

Burton Latimer Parish Plan - let's keep it going
Burton Latimer's highly acclaimed Parish Plan was published in 2012. The final document took account of views expressed in over 700 household questionnaires completed by local residents. The town council is now looking for interested local residents to join a small group to look at monitoring the actions in the Parish Plan, and to keep it active and up to date. This is a real opportunity to influence things in the town, and the group will meet around once every three months - so it won't be too onerous! If you would like further details please contact Maureen Jerram on 01536 725524, or by email at mjerram@tiscali.co.uk.
