Isham itinerary

The walk starts from the car park in the centre of Burton Latimer, opposite the Churchill Way shops.

On leaving the car park turn left along Churchill Way and - at the T-junction at end of the road - turn right into Queensway. Continue along Queensway into Bridle Road and - about 100yds after passing Nene Road on the right and just after house No.48 on the left - turn left by a litter bin into a short cul-de-sac and take the footpath signposted to Isham (No.1).

Follow the cinder track - which first bends to the right, then takes a sharp right / left dog-leg - to reach the bridge over the river Ise (No.2).

Continue straight ahead over the wooden bridge crossing the river. Immediately afterwards, take the footbridge over the railway line and follow the well-surfaced path that leads into Isham, entering the village along Mill Lane.

On reaching a small triangular green in Isham (the Lilacs public house will be on your right), take the road that leads ahead and slightly to the left (Middle St), and then - at another small triangular green - turn left into South St. At the end of this road - just by a post box - take the grassy footpath off to the right (avoiding No. 36b's driveway) signposted to Finedon (No.3).

Go through the gate and follow the waymarked path across fields, passing through two more gates on the way. Continue straight ahead to reach the green footbridge over the railway line. Having crossed to the far side of the bridge, ignore the waymarked path to the right (leading to Finedon) and take the narrow path straight ahead between a few trees, which leads back to the river (no.4) .

After about 200 yards (this bit can be very boggy after heavy rain!), go through a gap in the hedge and - after another 100yds - cross the river at the iron footbridge and turn left along the riverside path (no.5). On reaching the bridge used earlier to cross the railway line (No.6), turn right along the cinder track to emerge into Queensway. Turn right at this point, then left along Churchill Way to return to your starting point at the car park.
